Academics » 3rd Grade
Third Grade is a year where we encourage independent work, working together in groups cooperatively, and encourage “personal best” with each assignment.
- Our Religion lessons are taught using the Pflaum Faith Formation Program, which includes Gospel Weeklies and the handbook What the Church Believes and Teaches. This program is aligned to the Church's Liturgical Year. During the day we follow God’s way in becoming a better person in our daily life.
- We will be using the reading/writing Journey series by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and creating a classroom structure of Daily 5, which helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, phonics, and working independently to achieve a balanced literacy program.
- Go Math by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt provides student engagement, the rigor, and the personalization for students to be able to understand and apply the concepts taught in the classroom. This program allows for students to think about math, talk about math, and write about math with many real world problems, which allows them to be better problem solvers. Both of these programs are aligned with the New York state Common Core Standards.
- Science and Social Studies themes will be integrated into our learning such as: New York state, Washington D.C., Countries, the Science of Hot Air Balloons, Owls, Lighthouses, and Windmills just to name a few studies to broaden our learning of the world. The use of iPads, Chrome Books, and the classroom Smartboard allow for effective technology integration across the third Grade curriculum.
